Psalm 32 Author David. The blessedness of forgiveness. Maschil, written to be sung to a particular tune. Probably sung on the Day of Atonement. It is a "gospel" song that tells of God's grace in the pardon of sin. It tells of our duty in the confessing of our sins.
David probably without realizing it, speaks of "imputed righteousness" (Rom. 4:6). He gives a summary of the Grace of God in the forgiveness of sin, the perseverance of the forgiven and the guidance of the elect. He also describes the duties of the elect to confess sin, to pray, to live in obedience and rejoice in God's Grace. He suggests that we ought to be aware of these things for the sake of our conscience and for the quickening of our enthusiasm when we read this Psalm. "Blessed are those whose transgression is covered and whose sin is forgiven."
