Seek the Lord

Click here to read Psalms 34.

Psalm 34 Author David. Written when he was forced to leave Israel by Abimelech, son of Gideon, whose name like Judas became synonymous with traitors. He phrases God for His help in escaping the wrath of Abimelech. He prophesies that not one bone of the Messiah (Christ) will be broken. He encourages others to seek Him in time of trial.

The Psalm does not seem to fit the picture of one being driven from his home in order to escape the possibility of being killed. Here he phrases God for the experiences that he and others had had of God's goodness. He encourages all of God's people to seek Him in time of need and to trust Him as their redeemer. He cautions all to live obediently and faithfully in our duty to God and man. He again expresses the beliefs of Job's friends that the wicked are punished and the righteous are rewarded in this world. So the purpose of this Psalm seems to be to give glory to God and to remind ourselves to live rightly.
