Psalm 36 Author David. The excellent loving kindness of God. Written to the chief musician. Here David describes the wickedness of sin and God's grace to forgive. David lists three entities that have been the precipitants of God's Grace. All mankind in general, the people of Israel in particular and David himself. He confesses the wickedness of sin and how gracious God is to forgive.
Certainly David wrote this Psalm at some great persecution in his life. Whether it was one of his near death experiences with King Saul or the problem of his son, Absalom, becoming a traitor is not known, but certainly it must have been something of that magnitude.
Certainly David, by this experience, became acutely aware of the consequences of sin and the goodness of God in forgiveness. As for people of Israel, "How excellent is your loving kindness, O Lord, therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wing." As for mankind in general, "Your righteousness is like the great mountains, your judgments are deep and you serve man and beast." As for himself, the proud and the wicked were kept from him and the workers of iniquity were cast down and unable to rise again.
