The Burden of Sin

Click here to read Psalms 38.

Psalm 38 Author David. This Psalm is full of grief and repentance. God has brought upon David a physical sickness because of sin and David complains not only because of his sickness but also because of the condemnation of his friends. He concludes by confessing his sins and asking God's forgiveness and restoration.

The burden of David here is akin to the burden of Job, the condemnation of friends. We are not told what the occasion was that seemingly caused this sickness but evidently it was justified. Never the less, David complains. He complains not only of God's punishment but he complains of his own sinfulness. He is sick of body and heart for God had brought some illness upon him and his friends have forsaken him. He also seems to be concerned about his enemies upon whom he has shown some compassion and in return they have totally ignored his problems.

In reading this Psalm we cannot but be made aware of the possible punishment for sin and if we are not suffering at the moment, be thankful for punishment can and will come at God's discretion.
