Psalm 44 Author Unknown. A Prayer for deliverance by God. Some believe that the 10 Psalms accredited to The Sons of Korah, were actually written by David for them to sing, this Psalm may have been one of them. So we are not sure of the author or the occasion about which it was written. Certainly no matter who actually penned it, it was inspired by the "Spirit of Prophesy" and the occasion was either the sufferings of the people of Israel in Babylon or the sufferings of the early Christian Church. It appears to have been used in connection with fasting to make them humble. In it, "the Persecuted" petitions the "Thrown of Grace" for deliverance.
The Psalm gives phrase to God for what He had done in the past before asking for deliverance from the present persecution. In the reading of this Psalm we should first do whatever it takes (fasting helps) to become prostate before God humbly acknowledging His goodness. Then we can present our own grievances and sympathize with those in the church who are less fortunate than we are.
