Psalm 47 Written by The Sons of Korah or for The Sons of Korah. "The Lord shall subdue all nations." The purpose of this Psalm was to stir up the people to phrase God, publicly, cheerfully and intelligently. It speaks of His universal dominion over all nations. It was probably written when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Mt. Zion (Jerusalem). It also speaks of the ascension of Christ into the "Heavenly Zion" after He has set up His Kingdom in this world.
Here the author not only stirs up the people to phrase God but he lists the things for which they are to phrase Him. His majesty (power and sovereignty), His universal dominion (Creator of all), the great things that He had done for them and the great things that He would do in the future. In the reading of this Psalm we should give phrase to our Redeemer, acknowledge His exalted position and confess that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
