Psalm 48 Written by The Sons of Korah or possibly by David for the Sons of Korah. The phrase of Mt. Zion. This is a song of triumph obviously written after a great victory by Israel over one of its enemies. Here Jerusalem is phrased for its relationship with God, the terror it strikes in the hearts of its enemies and God is phrased for His care of it. The Author ends with the assurance he has of God's covenant with the people of Zion.
Some believe that this Psalm was penned in celebration of Jehoshaphat's victory over the combined armies of Moab, Ammon and Mount Seit in II Chron. 20, others believe it was turning back of Sennacherib at the siege of Jerusalem in Hezekiah's time but surly, as with the others, it could apply to the triumph of the Christian Church in the end times of which Jerusalem was a "type". Jerusalem is here phrased for its relationship to God and for His care of it. It is phrased for the terror that it strikes in the heart of its enemies and of the perpetual nature of its being.
In the reading of this Psalm we should be thankful and phrase God for the assurances given here for His Church of which we are a part and be excited about the activities and endeavors of it.
