Psalm 49 Written by The Sons of Korah or for The Sons of Korah. In most of the Psalms the Author is either praying or phrasing, here he is preaching. He attempts to awake these worldly people out of their false security. He comforts the poor with promises of riches in heaven.
Notice this sermon is preached to "all the inhabitants of the earth". To the rich he says "Take no pride in wealth or place any confidence in it." To the poor he says, "Grieve not over the prosperity of the wicked." To all he says, "Wealth cannot save you or our friends from death, it cannot buy happiness." "Have no fear of death or the power of the wicked." In the reading of this Psalm let us dwell on the wisdom of it.
