Psalm 58 Author David. Wicked Judges will be judged. Written to the chief musician with instructions that it was to be sung to the tune of "Do not Destroy". It was written for private meditation. It is believed that David wrote this Psalm as the result of an order issued by Saul and supported by the Judges, declaring David to be a traitor and therefore could be killed by anyone and anyone found protecting him could be killed also. Here David describes their sin and foretells of their ruin.
This order written by King Saul and supported by the great council started a legal process against David and came prior to the use of the military when the order failed. The Elders of Israel supported Saul in this in order to gain favor with him.
Here David describes their sin and foretells of their ruin. He prophesies God's judgment upon them, as God is a righteous and just Judge. In the reading of this Psalm, we should be forewarned of the dangers of sin and the judgment for it, especially the sin of supporting an unjust indictment against an innocent person.
