Psalm 69 Author David. Petition for God to draw near. Written to the chief musician with instructions that it was to be accompanied on a "lily" shaped instrument or sung to a well-known tune of the day (Lilies). It was written when David was depressed and in great trouble. He earnestly begs God to relieve him. He compares his troubles to those of Christ who was given vinegar to drink when He thirsted. (The 15th. prophesy concerning the Messiah). He also compares his love of the Temple with Christ's love of the "House of God". (The 16th. prophesy concerning the Messiah)
In the reading of this Psalm we should dwell on the sufferings of Christ on the cross and the glory that followed in his resurrection and ascension to the Father. This should sustain us in time of persecution and give us hope in the future.
