The first 11 Psalms in this book are believed to have been written by A-saph, but the purpose is not clear. It could read: Psalms for A-saph or Psalms of A-saph. A-saph was the Chief Musician under David and through whom the "Spirit of Prophecy", by sacred songs, descended. This "Spirit" primarily descended upon David, but it might also have descended upon those about him. We have listed these 11 Psalms as having been written by A-saph.

Psalm 73 Author A-saph. Life is Eternal. It consists, for the Christian, in a series of "ups" and "downs". The Psalmist describes this from his own experience. He tells us:

1. How he got into temptation, the "downers".
2. How he got out of temptation.
3. What he learned from the experience.
4. How it made him a better person, the "uppers".
