An Evil Alliance

Click here to read Psalms 83.

Psalm 83 Author A-saph. A Plea for God to Destroy Israel's Enemies. No specific instructions to the chief musician. It was written when the Assyrians joined up with the Moabites and the Ammonites, here called "the children of Lot", to defeat Judah during King Jehoshaphat's reign. (2nd. Chronicles 20). The Psalmist appeals to God for the defeat of this evil alliance.

This is the last Psalm that is credited to the writings of A-saph. It may have been penned as the result of the above event but it could also have been penned at other occasions when numerous evil alliances were made by those around Israel, made for Israel's destruction.

The Psalmist makes an appeal to remind God of this evil alliance of which he is sure God is aware. He uses the nation of Israel, God's chosen people and God's honor as reasons for God to step in and defeat this alliance of Israel's enemies. We to can use this Psalm and the arguments found in it to preserve His Church when we are faced with the evil alliances of Satan and the Anti-christ in their efforts to destroy the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
