Departing Jerusalem with Sorrow

Click here to read Psalms 84.

Psalm 84 Author Korah. The Joy of Dwelling with God. Many believe that David actually wrote this Psalm for the Sons of Korah, the Temple Musicians, to be sung to a particular tune. It describes David's sorrow upon the occasion of his having to leave Jerusalem because of his sons, Absolum, rebellion. To David, God dwelled in Jerusalem and he took great joy in the observance of God's ordinances there. His absence only reminded him of that joy.

The Psalmist expresses with great affection the ordinances of God and the great value that he had for them. He witnesses to the joy of those who observe them. He declares his faith in the God of those ordinances and his desire to obey and worship Him. He has great faith in the happiness of those who do this. In the reading of this Psalm we should demonstrate that great love and enthusiasm for God and his ordinances that David did.
