In this book we have 2 psalms written by David, one by Moses and the rest the authors are unknown. Two other psalms are alluded to, in the Bible, as having been written by Moses. One in Exodus 15, which is a song of phrase, and one in Revelations 15 which is a song of instruction.
Psalm 90 Author Moses. A Prayer of Moses, a Man of God. No specific instructions to the chief musician. The theme is, "Teach us to number our days".
The psalm was written as the result of God's judgment upon Israel for their lack of faith at Kadesh-barnea where they chose not to go into the Promise Land because they thought that they could not possess it. For this lack of faith, God caused them to wonder for 40 years in the wilderness. The Psalm was read daily in the tents of the people and by the Priests in the Tabernacle to remind them of the danger of disbelief.
The Psalm does the following:
It is very applicable to all of our lives, the costs of our unbelief, the frailties of our convictions. It keeps us humble and teaches us to number our days.
