To Bring Conviction Than Comfort

Click here to read Psalms 94.

Psalm 94 Author unknown. Written during a time of persecution. No specific instructions to the chief musician. Its purpose:

  1. To bring conviction and fear to the persecutors. To show them the dangers of persecuting God's anointed.
  2. To bring comfort and peace to the persecuted by assuring them that God has promised to end their persecution.

The Author, though unknown, obviously had personally experienced answered prayer in regard to being delivered from his enemies so he here speaks of what he knows and very assuredly. In the singing of this Psalm we believe that the Author wanted us to look upon the enemies of the Lord with holy indignation and, by faith, expect judgment from the Lord to fall upon them. This we must do with assurance.
