Psalm 96 Author unknown. Declare the Glory of God. This psalm was sung when the Ark was brought to Zion. It looks to the Kingdom of Christ and the prophecies of the inclusion of the Gentiles. This psalm, unlike the others, is written to all men everywhere. It encourages all nations to phrase God and worship Him as the one true and living God. It gives notice, to the world, of God's universal government and judgment.
We do not know who penned this Psalm, some believe David, but we do know that it was part of those songs that were delivered to Asaph and recorded in I Chron. 16:7. It certainly did refer to the bringing of the Ark into Jerusalem but it also prophesies of the bringing of the Gentile into the Kingdom of Christ. In the reading of this Psalm we should have our minds set upon the Gospel and the sovereignty of God both in deliverance and in judgment.
