Psalm 99 Author unknown. Exalt the Lord our God. No specific instructions to the chief musician. This is a Psalm of the Old Testament dispensation. It declares the promises of God which they were bound to believe, the laws, which they were bound to obey, and the feasts which they were bound to observe. This covenant covered spiritual as well as civil things and should be joyously obeyed and administered.
This Psalm rightly follows the previous Psalms concerning the future Kingdom of the Messiah. It was written for the Jews and was to instruct them that in their expectation of the coming Kingdom of the Messiah they were not to neglect the present divine dispensation of the Law. They were to continue in the observances of the feasts and the other rituals as set by the Laws of Moses. Prophesies of good things to come must not lessen our appreciation of the good things of the present.
In the reading of this Psalm we should give thanks for our present revelation and not dwell so much on future revelation. We have all that is needed to be saved and to have the joy of it.
