In this book we have 44 Psalms, 15 written by David, 28 unknown and one written by Koran. The 15 psalms from 120 to 134, are called "songs of ascent or degrees". They were used by the Priests as they went up the 15 steps from the Outer Court to the Inner Court of the Temple.
Psalm 107 Author unknown. No instructions. This Psalm deals with the age old question of what provision has God made for those who never hear of Him? The Author says that there are those outside the Commonwealth of Israel who worshipped the one true and living God. Also there were those who worshipped idols who were given some knowledge of a supreme being to whom they looked to in times of trial above all their false gods. To these, God took a particular care.
Some believe that this Psalm tells us of the "providential" care of those who are not sufficiently enlightened, the "children of men", especially in their distress for He is not only King of Saints, He is King of nations. It speaks of a "longing soul" seeking the Creator, believing in a Supreme Being but not knowing who He is. To these searching souls, The Psalmist gives hope.
In the reading of this Psalm we are reminded of the book that warns us not to make our God too small nor limit His mercies to the most enlightened. Likewise in the applying of this Psalm, we are not to forget our Gospel teachings concerning the place of Jesus Christ in God's plan of salvation.
