A Prayer for Deliverance

Click here to read Psalms 109.

Psalm 109 Author David. Written to the "choirmaster". A Song of the Slandered. This Psalm was written by David during the time he was either persecuted by Saul or when he mourned the treachery of his son Absalom. He likens himself to the Messiah. He prophesies two things about the Messiah.

  1. Christ will, as David did, pray for His enemies. (Luke 23:34)
  2. Christ's betrayer, Judas, would be replaced by another as David knew that Saul would be replaced by him.

First he lodges his complaint before the throne of God. Then he prays that his enemies will be destroyed. He asks God for strength to take him through this particular time of persecution and concludes with a joyful expression of his anticipation of God's answer to his request.
