Psalm 124 is another "Psalm of Degrees" and is believed to have been written by David at a high point in the religious life of the people. It appears that some great deliverance had been wrought by the Lord. The danger which they had been facing would surly have brought ruin upon the nation of Israel so David is desirous of informing the people of the goodness of God in the delivering of His people. David is careful to give God all the glory and takes none of the credit for himself as Kings were often known to do.
In the Psalm David describes the magnitude of the danger that they were in and the destruction that they surly would have suffered if God had not stepped in and rescued them and for this he gives God all the glory.
In the reading of this Psalm we might well look back at our own history and see the hand of deliverance in the forming of this nation and the preserving of it up to this point. We should also give thanks for the many times that He has personally delivered us from danger and the bondage of sin.
