Dedicating Solomon's Temple

Click here to read Psalms 132.

Psalm 132, another of the Psalms of Degrees, was sung at the dedication of Solomon's Temple. Some believe that it was penned by Solomon for this particular occasion after he had completed the construction of the Temple according to his father's, David, instructions (I Chron. 28:2 etc.). Thus having completed what had been entrusted to him, he pleas to God to honor and accept it for His service. Then he brings the Ark of the Covenant, that which was symbolic of God's presence, into the Temple praying that God Himself will come and take possession of it. With these words, Solomon concluded his prayer.

He had built the Temple according to the instructions given him by his father and hoped to gain the same piety and position before God as his father had obtained by the promises of God through His grace. In the reading of this Psalm we must show the same concern for our efforts in God's service as Solomon did and humbly seek His approval, as we too are dependant upon His mercies.
