Psalm 136 Author unknown. O Give Thanks Unto the Lord, for He is Good. God's mercy endureth and is here repeated 26 times yet it is not "vain repetition. It was done to keep our mind on the theme of the Psalm and adds very much to the beauty of it. The repetition of this fact is a parallel to the repetitions of God's mercies toward us and it invites us to see this in all that God does for us. The truth of this should explain His honor in which He glories. As Saints, this should be our comfort. The assurance of all of God's promises is the joy of our salvation. We cannot remind ourselves of this to often, to the contrary, it must be affirmed often less we forget.
In the reading of this Psalm we see again the theme of "Assurance" that is ours in Christ Jesus and the shame of those who do not understand or reject it.
