Psalm 138 Author David. There are no instructions to the chief musician. In the song David looks back with thankfulness upon the goodness of God toward him. He looks forward with comfort and hopes that others to may experience these blessings and that God will continue to do good toward him.
We cannot determine when or for what occasion David penned this Psalm but it appears to be the out growth of a time of meditation by David on the goodness of God toward him. He encourages others to think about this and to express their thankfulness to God. In the reading of this Psalm, we to need to look back at the times that God has been good to us far beyond what we deserve and phrase God for this with our whole heart.
