An Appeal for God's Mercy

Click here to read Psalms 141.

Psalm 140 thru 144 are very similar. They were all written by David while he was being persecuted by Saul. This Psalm was written while David was in deep distress and like the previous Psalm, was probably written while he was in a cave and presented as a prayer. In these Psalms:

  1. He complains.
  2. He encourages himself.
  3. He prays.
  4. He assures others that the "troubled time" that they were experiencing would end.

Here he prays for God's acceptance. By this time David had been called by the Lord to be the next King of Israel but things were not going well for David. Saul was jealous of David because of the affection that the people had for him. The many attempts on his life must have caused some doubt in David's mind about his "calling" so here he asks God for help in a "troubled time". This he asked not only for himself but also for those who were loyal to him. He prayed that God would appear for their relief and rescue.

In the reading of this Psalm we must realize that God's mercy and Grace are as necessary to us as they were for David. We may never face those who have determined in their hearts to kill us, but we have faced the enemy and Satan is just as deadly to us as Saul was to David.
