Comfort in God

Click here to read Psalms 142.

Psalm 140 thru 144 are very similar. They were all written by David while he was being persecuted by Saul. This Psalm is a Maskil (Maschil), a sermon that may have been chanted, believed to have been written while he was in a cave and presented as a prayer. In these Psalms:

  1. He complains.
  2. He encourages himself.
  3. He prays.
  4. He assures others that the "troubled time" that they were experiencing would end.

"I poured out my complaint before the Lord". David's complaint was the subtlety, strength and malice of his enemy's couples with the indifference of some of his friends. But in spite of this, he takes comfort in the fact that he knows that God knows of his troubles and he is confident that he will act in his behalf then he expects the righteous to join his in phrasing God.

In the reading of this Psalm we should apply it to the times when we to become troubled in mind and spirit and take comfort, as David did, in the assurance that God cares.
