Psalms 140 thru 143 are very similar. They were all written by David while he was being persecuted by Saul and were sermons that may have been chanted and were believed to have been written while he was in a cave and presented as a prayer.
This Psalm is believed to have been written after he became King but still disturbed by neighboring nations especially the Philistines (Second Samuel 5:17).
In this Psalm he thanks God for His anointing as King of Israel. He asks God to help him deal with his enemies. He prays for the prosperity of his kingdom and finds great joy in the hope of it. In the reading of this Psalm we may, like David, acknowledge God as the giver of all talents and the source of the strength that we need to face those who would be our enemies. We should then express great joy at the hope of God's answer.
