The Appearance of the Seven Angels

The Song of Moses

Here we see the wrath of God, symbolically portrayed by 7 vials, being poured out upon the Anti-christ by 7 Angels, each creating a plague. This is to be the destruction of the Anti-christ.

Notice there is a place provided for those who did not take the mark of the Beast where they could observe this destruction. They stand beside a "sea of glass" with "harps" in their hands and sing songs of phrase to God and the Lamb, songs that were sung by Moses and portions of Ethan's 89th. Psalm, Jeremiah and Isaiah. These songs tell of the greatness of God in delivering His people and His faithfulness in destroying their enemies.

What is the "sea of glass? Obviously, a place of "reflection". Some believe it is symbolic of the world, a fragile thing which will be broken to pieces in the last days and some believe it is symbolic of the covenant, the promises of God which we all stand on.

Seven Golden Bowls

All of this sets the stage for the 7 Angels with the 7 vials of God's wrath. Notice in verse 5 from where in heaven the Angels came, the Temple of the Tent of Witness or the Temple of the Tabernacle of Testimony. This was John's way of eluding to the holiest place in heaven, referring back to the Holy of Holies, that portion of the Tabernacle that house the Ark of the Covenant, where communion with God was made and intercession and prayers were made.

With these preparations, we can assume the following:

  1. God was about to fulfill His promise to bring judgment, complete and final, upon the Anti-christ.
  2. That in doing this, He was answering the prayers of the Saints.
  3. That in doing this, He was also avenging His own Son.
  4. That He was also giving freedom and safety of worship to His people.

Notice how the 7 Angels were equipped for their work:

  1. They were clothed with pure and white (bright) linen. This was the dress of the High Priest when they went in to the Holy of Holies to inquire of God.
  2. They were girded with golden girdles. This showed that in all things, they were acting under divine direction.

Notice it is one of the 4 creatures, representing the ministers of God, that gives the Angels the golden bowls that are full of the wrath of God. Seven bowls or vials representing the "complete" wrath of God. No one can withstand the complete wrath of God but notice it was divided into seven parts.

Lastly, note that "all" would be affected. No one could enter the "Temple" , any place where God is worshipped, until the 7 plagues had ended. The Anti-christ will be so interwoven, like the tares with the wheat, that they cannot be destroyed without a great shock to all. The people of God will have little rest during this period.

Suggested here:

  1. The days of worship will be interrupted.
  2. Church congregations will suddenly find some of its leadership under the wrath of God. The Anti-christ will be revealed.
  3. God, Himself, will judge the world and when He is done, the church will be at rest, purged of all that is un-Christ like.

All of this precedes and prepares for the pouring out of the 7 bowls of God's wrath by the 7 Angels.
