Song of Solomon Chapter 8:5-14
Miscellaneous Love Lyrics
The first lyric has to do with being "raised up" or redeemed.
- "Who is that coming up out of the wilderness, leaning
upon her beloved?" Here the Daughters of Jerusalem
finally recognize her as one who had been given credence
by her lover and they bless her. This is symbolic of the
Church that was raised up from humble beginnings to
world respect by the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- "In travail, (sweat and tears) under the apple tree, (a
place of prayer) I awakened you or raised you up."
The Prophet Nathan under the fig tree and Christ in
the Garden of Gethsemane, in travail for their beloved.
- "Set me as a seal upon your heart." The Bride seeks the
confirmation of his love and grace. A two-way street,
we desire that He always have a place in our hearts
and we desire to always have a place in His heart.
- "Love is a passion." It is as strong as death. He loved
us and gave Himself for us. Paul, cought up in this
love, knew not weather he was in or out of the body.
Love is victorious and caused Paul to declare, "To
live is Christ but to die is gain." If a man would
give all that he had to the Lord and had not love,
he would be condemned.
- "The responsibility of a "sibling". They had a little sister
and she was not yet mature (without brests). They were
concerned about what they would do with her until she
became married. Having confirmed their love for one
another, they have now sat down to discuss the situations
of life that come into a marrage. This may have spoken
of the situation that the Jewish Christian Church would
face with the inclusion of the Gentile, immature and
not yet espoused to the Lord. Notice how the Bridegroom
resolved the matter and the bride agreed. If she becomes
a "wall" or a "door" we will build upon her a Palace of
silver. If she but reaches out to Christ, we will help
and support the "good work" that has begun in her.
- The Thankfulness of the Bride. The Bride seeing the kindness
of the Bridegroom, takes this occasion to thank the
Bridegroom for the kindness that he had shown to her in
the past, knowing what it was like to be alone and at
the mercy of the world (The Daughters of Jerusalem).
Notice what having found favor in his eyes did for her.
She now has value in her own eyes. Christ gives quality
and assurance to the believer. She now has maturity and
a good foundation on which to build. No greater foundation
can any man lay than that which is laid in Christ Jesus.
- Then they discuss a vineyard that they had in the country.
The key to these verses is in Matt. 21:33. The parable
of the vineyard. They had parceled out the vineyard,
each tenant receiving 1000 vines for which he paid an
annual fee of 1000 pieces of silver. The lost of the
world is a vineyard. The Lord had parceled out to the
Christian of that world to wittness to. He expects us to
faithful to that wittness, but not responsible for the
bounty of the harvest. The Bridegroom expected a return
on his investment.
- Finally we see that the Bridegroom and the Bride must part
for a while. He desires to hear from her often, she
desires his speedy return. The application is very evident
here. Christ had to leave for awhile, His Ascension, He
desires to hear from us often, in prayer, the Bride, the
the body of believers look for his speedy return.
The Analogy between the Bridegroom and the Bride and Christ and His Church, is so
beautifully portrayed in this book.
