Zechariah Delivers Another Sermon

Click here to read Zechariah 9.

In this chapter we have the beginning of a great sermon by Zechariah. Here he prophesies concerning the return of the scattered people of Israel and the coming of the Messiah whom they would reject. This and the following three chapters are a sermon, which is called "The Burden of the Word of the Lord", for the Word of the Lord, has "weight" in it to those who believe it and will be a "heavy weight" to those who do not. Five prophecies are here foretold by Zechariah:

  1. A prophecy concerning their unrighteous neighbors. (The Syrians, Philistines, and others)
  2. A prophecy of the coming of the Messiah and a description of Him.
  3. An account of the Jews obligation to Christ for their deliverance out of captivity.
  4. A prophecy of deliverance, the Jews over their enemies, typical of their great deliverance by Christ
  5. A promise of the "great plenty" which God had reserved for His people.
