This chapter ends a profound sermon by Zechariah. In the chapter before, he was the proclaimer of peace and future prosperity. Here he continues that same theme in the future tense, in the coming of the promised Messiah. He prophesies the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the acceptance of it by a chosen remnant. He also prophesies that the majority of the Jews will persist in unbelief and be destined to ruin for rejecting Christ.
Here we have a prediction of the destruction that shall fall upon the Jewish nation, the deliverance that will be offered in Christ, the rejection of the Jews and the turning of them over to a blind shepherd that will lead them to destruction.
