Judgment on the Neighboring Nations

Chapter 2 declares God's judgment upon the neighboring nations of Judah, those who had rejoiced when Israel was defeated and scattered. Listed were the four major cities of Philistia. "The Lord will destroy you until not one of you is left." "Your coastline will become a pasture." Listed also were Moab and Ammon. "I will destroy you like Sodom and Gomorrah." "Your land will become a place of nettles, sand pits and eternal desolation." Listed to was Ethiopia (Egypt). "You will be slain by the sword." And to Assyria and her great capitol city of Nineveh, "You will become a pasture land for sheep. a desolate wasteland like a wilderness." "All sorts of wild animals will find their home there." "This will be the fate of that vast prosperous city that said of herself, "In all the world there is no capitol as great as I", but now see how she has become a place of utter ruins.
