Max Miller is Jim Miller's son by his first wife, who was burned on the ceiling above Max's crib. Max was brutally beaten while a child, by both his father and his uncle, who lived next door, and his stepmom did nothing to stop them. Then five years ago they move into this house. |

About halfway into his 22nd year, Max realizes he has the power of telekinesis. After feeling helpless so much in his life, he could now do something. Seven months later, his father came home and beat him once more, and Max decides enough.
One night, about a week later, his dad comes driving in. Max uses his ability to close the garage door, lock the car doors, and turn the car ignition on. He waits, just outside of the garage, keeping the car engine running and the car doors locked, until his father dies of carbon monoxide poisoning. He "pretends" to find his father, and call 911. His stepmother is devastated, and comforted by his uncle.
The next day he sits by himself in the dining room as people all come to offer condolences. One father, Sam, comes to talk with him, and asks about when he found his dad. Max lies, saying he woke up and heard the engine running. Sam tries to offer condolence.
That night he is waiting for Uncle Roger as he comes in from grocery shopping. He uses his power to raise the window. Roger closes it, but Max raises it again. He waits until Roger is under the window, and uses his power to slam it shut. Max then leaves.
The next day Priest Sam and another priest visits, asking about if his dad and uncle were close. Their old house brought back bad memories, but Max lies and tells them the family was totally normal, and happy. They leave.
Max confronts Alice next, catching her in the kitchen when she's cooking. He tells her that she didn't do anything, didn't stop the abuse from happening. Just as he was getting ready to float the knife up, the priests burst into the house. Sam asks if they could talk with him, privately, for just a second. He thinks about it, and agrees, but when he's following the one priest out, he sees a gun. Using his abilities, he slams the door and all the window shutters shut. He realizes they aren't priests, and pulls the gun from the one's hand. Alice doesn't understand what's happening, but she won't shut up, so he throws her in the kitchen and knocks her unconscious. Sam tells him they lied, but no more, and tells Max that he could see Max kill his dad and uncle before it happened. That he was going to kill his stepmom. Sam talks Max into letting Dean and Alice go upstairs, and they sit down to talk.
