Layla Rourke has a brain tumor. She is the daughter of Mrs. Rourke, and they both have been coming faithfully to Rev. Roy LeGrange's services for some time, for Layla to be healed. |

Before one of the services, Layla stops to talk with two brothers. Mrs. Rourke approaches her and puts her arm around her daughter, urging her to come inside. They sit near the front, in the hopes that Roy LeGrange will choose Layla to be healed this time. However, he chooses one of the strangers, Dean. Layla leans over to comfort her mother.
The next day Mrs. Rourke insists on going to Rev. LeGrange to get him to heal Layla, but when they arrive Dean is leaving. Sue Ann LeGrange tells them that Roy is resting and won't see anyone else. Sue Ann goes back inside, and Mrs. Rourke turns her frustration on Dean, asking why he gets to live when her daughter doesn't. If only Roy would quit choosing strangers over Layla! Dean asks Layla what is wrong, and she tells him that she has a brain tumor which is inoperable, and that she has six months to live. Dean tells her he's sorry.
The next service Roy doesn't choose Layla, but the service after that he does. Mrs. Rourke is ecstatic, and tells Layla she loves her as Layla heads up to the stage. Dean stops Layla to talk with her, telling her she can't go up to be healed. He doesn't tell her why, only that something bad will happen. Layla looks at Sue Ann, and then back at her mother. She tells Dean she's sorry, and continues onto the stage. But before Roy could heal Layla, Dean calls “Fire” and the service is stopped. Later Layla finds Dean, to ask him why he would do that? He tells her that Roy isn't a healer, but Roy healed Dean and Layla doesn't understand. She wishes him luck, and says goodbye. Roy promises Mrs. Rourke that he will heal Layla that evening in a special service.
Mrs. Rourke comes back that evening with Layla, and Roy LeGrange prays over her daughter, but it didn't work - Layla doesn't feel any different. She isn't healed.
Sam calls Layla and tells her that they are leaving, and that Dean wants to say goodbye. She shows up at their hotel room to talk with Dean. She tells him she went back to see Roy, but nothing happened. Dean's sorry it didn't work. She also tells him about Sue Ann's death, a stroke. Dean feels Roy doesn't deserve what happened. Layla tells him that she's okay. That she has faith, even when the miracles don't happen. That God works in mysterious ways. She gets up to walk out, and Dean tells her that he's not much of a praying type, but he'll pray for her. She tells him that's a miracle right there.
